1. Access the records, documents and
files that we have on convicts and prisoners, as well as
baptism, funeral and marriage records and executions that
took place in the building.
2. Search the
Internet to develop an awareness and collaborate with online
centres such as the Archives Office, State Library and
Education Department collections.
3. Access our
WEB site and use the Internet to maximise the links from our
site to appropriate Tourism and Cultural Heritage sites, so
that we can expand our market awareness, through an
increased online profile.
4. Search
CD-ROM based databases such as the Tasmanian Convict records
and the Tasmanian Pioneer Index for historical and
genealogical references to broaden our range of services we
can offer as part of our tourism and promotional range.
5.
View our computerised 3D tours of the building. The first
tour, set in 1834, is designed to gain an understanding of
the building as it was originally constructed. A later tour
shows the building as it was modified in the late 1850s.
Each tour has an associated game. (University
of Tasmania computing students developed the tours and
associated computer games in 2001/2002.)
6. A scanner
is available to scan to the database and CD-ROM, any
historical photographs of the Penitentiary, Chapel, Prison
Staff and inmates; and various historical documents that may be brought in by
visitors.
7. A printer
may be used to printout information from our database and
other information held on the computer for guides and
visitors.
